We are looking for an experienced Director of Hardware Engineering to join our team. You will work at our office in Oslo and be responsible for leading the hardware team, as part of Airthings’ R&D department.

Responsibilities
- Lead the hardware team: Recruit and retain a high-performing hardware team, manage staffing, coach and develop people
- Work closely with other parts of the organization, including program management, product teams, product architecture, firmware and software to create new products. Be actively engaged in developing the hardware product roadmap across the consumer and the business segment.
- Stay on top of new technologies relevant for Airthings, including for sensors and wireless communication. Work with internal stakeholders, partners, and suppliers to create and deliver a technology roadmap, making sure Airthings is the benchmark in air quality monitoring
- Own manufacturing testing and test infrastructure: Work closely with firmware team to develop test systems for new products and maintain existing test systems, to ensure a cost-efficient production line where throughput can match forecasts
- Be overall responsible for hardware and production support and maintenance: Take action on KPIs including support load and production throughput and yield. Ensure timely tech support for customer cases as needed, identify improvements to existing products and fix production issues, with urgency if required
- Drive Quality Assurance, Product Lifecycle management, and best practices for Sustainable and Circular design and production
This is what we are looking for
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar
- 3+ years of experience from leading a team of engineers with proven results creating high-volume electronics or similar products
- Experience dealing with suppliers and producers/factories in different countries and cultures
- Hands-on experience from both development and support of mass-produced electronic products
- You have a strategic mindset, and you like to combine your technical knowledge with commercial and product priorities
- You love to work at a fast pace, where things are continuously changing, and can be flexible despite the longer development cycles in this area, though pushing back when appropriate
- You don’t mind some firefighting when needed, but work persistently to improve and avoid such situations
- You are a strong communicator and a team player, and you are comfortable with discussing and collaborating with strong-minded team members, peers and managers.
- You are confident and have leadership skills and can both act as a mentor to team members and as a specialist within one or more of the areas the team covers.
- You are able to influence peers and leaders without formal reporting lines to you; you collaborate well with Engineering teams as well as Product management and Customer Success
